Wikis

Wikis, first created by Ward Cunningham in the mid 1990s, are a way to send out information through the internet. However, unlike other websites, wikis can be edited by other people. For example, if someone posts a wrong fact, another person can come along and delete it or correct it. Wikis also make it easy to collaborate on a project with a group of people. Everyone can add to one topic without having to meet together to discuss the information in person. Though wikis are an effective and helpful design, there is also a risk using these because anyone can edit them. In some cases, a username and password can be created to prevent the possible vandalism. Overall, wikis are a convenient invention that can facilitate communication among a group of people.

Wikis are very useful because they allow anyone to edit them. Because of this feature, it allows several people to work together and come up with an idea and a fully involved product without ever having to come face to face with anyone. Each person contributes information and what they know. Because it is a bunch of people teaming together, it is possible to come up with something good and precise, especially with research topics that are sometimes on wikis. It is very easy to make a wiki and it opens up a new and easy way for people to communicate with each other. To make a wiki, just go to :

Wikis are a way of communicating and expressing one's thoughts. I think this is a great aspect of the internet. It is a way for a group of people to share how they feel about certain things. For example, right now when I am typing this I am sharing my personal view point on wikis. (I think they are easy to use and a good idea in general) Wikis give internet users many different options. One can modify their privacy settings for who can view certain things they write. Also, one can make their wiki their own personal space and change the appearance, text, etc. For me, I like wikis because I type much faster than I write and my ideas don't just stay cooped up in my notebook.

Wikis are a great way for classrooms to connect with projects and have classroom topic discussions outside of the classroom. It would also allow parents to follow along with these class discussions and stay informed about whats going on in the classroom

Wikis and wikispaces is a useful discussion website for the students in the classroom to give their input and knowledge on the topic. Wikis are available to all students who create and join the page so they will be able to write what they know about the topic at hand. They can also be used as a tool that the students can retrieve information and other opinions on certain topics that other people have around the world.
